If a Dental Crown Falls off Your Tooth

Posted .

Dental crowns come loose and fall off at times. If this happens to you, the dentist can get it back where it belongs or provide a replacement if necessary. In the meantime, there are some things you can do to keep the tooth safe and ease any discomfort you may feel.

For dealing with discomfort, you can try putting some clove oil on the tooth, using a cotton swab to apply it. Clove oil is very useful for soothing discomfort and offering you some relief. Of course, time is a priority, and clove oil is a temporary solution. If you can make it to our office quickly without applying clove oil, we can get to the root of the problem sooner so you can have a more permanent solution for any discomfort.

We do recommend that you put the crown back on the tooth it covered, if you can find it. This can help you keep the tooth safe and carry the crown to the dentist. You can use some dental cement to temporarily glue the crown back on.

Sometimes, you may completely lose the crown, or it may be broken in such a way that putting it back on is not feasible. What you can do in this case is use dental cement to cover the tooth. If it completely covers the tooth, the cement can guard things long enough for you to visit the dentist.

Whatever you do, however, please do not glue the crown in with household glues. They may be good for little repairs here and there, but not these kind of repairs. Glues are not good for your health, so please do not risk it.

Once you arrive, Dr. Steven Walker can get the crown back in order or get things ready for a new crown. If you need our help with anything, our office is located in Chesterton, Indiana. You can get in touch with us by calling 219-926-4321.
